Well, let me introduce myself. I am a 25 year old graduate – I graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2012 with a First Class BA in the History of Art. I still can’t believe I actually did it – I got a first! Having gone to the worst school in Sheffield  (If you check the pass rates for Chaucer School from the last ten years or so you’ll see that I am not exaggerating either), that grade means a lot to me! A hell of a lot! (Though not as much to employers as I may have thought but never-mind… It only cost me £9000. Things could be worse. I could have paid £27,000!)

On finishing Uni and having a slight crisis regarding what I  was going to do with the rest of my life, though I’m reliably told most 40 year olds still haven’t figured this out, I started working in retail so that I could save enough money to do a Postgraduate degree, or Masters, once I knew what I was doing obviously! My only two viable options are the Armed Forces and Journalism/Writer (non-viable usually involves living in a random tropical country in some kind of hut), and I guess as I really enjoy writing this blog is a bit of a manifestation of one of those career options.

I hope that by blogging about what interests me (art, culture, and current affairs) I might find my path and figure everything out! When I do apply for work experience I guess these pages will provide people with a feel for how I write, and what excites me!

By the way, If anybody would like to offer me work experience or internships (I know right – a little tiny bit optimistic) please feel free to get in touch with me, it would be very very much appreciated.

To briefly tell you a bit more about me; I have travelled to a few places, financed by full time jobs and wasted student loans (that last bit probably wasn’t necessary but my working class roots made me feel the need to tell you):

  • North America – Vermont (Camp America); Niagara falls; Indiana; California; Florida; New York; Washington
  • South America – Ecuador and Peru (including volunteering in the cloud forest and Maccu Piccu)
  • Africa – Tanzania (including Zanzibar); Malawi; Zambia; Botswana; Johannesburg
  • Asia – Thailand; Cambodia; Vietnam
  • Europe – The Netherlands; France; Spain; Greece

I have also done quite a bit of charity work and volunteering – my favourite charities are:

Please look them up if you have time!

I am also a feminist, and you will find much themed along these lines on the pages of my blog. Equality amongst women and men is something we will achieve. Hopefully sooner rather than later!

Lastly, or finally you may be thinking, I really adore running. I can say that because at this second I am not actually running. If you were to ask me that whilst I was actually running I would reply with words along the lines of are you f****** mad?!  Running, reading, history… Basically I am, for the most part, a massive Geek!

Anyway!!! That’s about the gist of it!!

I should say what my aims are, what my goal here is. Ultimately, I would love if a person might, through finding my blog, become more engaged in art and politics; if I could inspire somebody to get out and see an exhibition or visit a gallery, inspire a person to voice their opinion on something political in my comments or on their own terms, or just inspire someone to debate with me on my opinions, then I would be happy!

I shall try and cover a range of subjects on a regular basis… Enjoy!!
